What Do You Get Battlefield 3 Or Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Battlefield-3-Call-of-Duty-Showdown

EA and Activision are gearing up for the most epic video game battle in history. Each publisher has spent over $100 million to market these two highly-anticipated titles, including a lavish Call of Duty XP fan event and a towering billboard in Times Square for Battlefield 3. So which game is right for you?

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty is Goliath, Modern Warfare 2 made $310 million in its first day, that’s the biggest entertainment launch in history. Since the army-shooter franchise started in 2002 gamers have spent a cumulative 229,000 years playing Call of Duty online. CoD developers Infinity Ward are looking to improve on the success of previous titles by taking the game global. Visually stunning vistas of New York and Paris give you a passport to epic, fast-paced action.

Not only has Activision completely revamped the killstreaks this time around, which now encourages different play styles, awarding you for not just kills, but team based objectives as well, they have added brand new game modes that sound great- like Team Defender and Kill Confirmed- A new weapon progression system is also in place, that lets you unlock specific attachments for weapons, and weapon proeffiencies, which allow you to upgrade your weapon and make it more durable and usable by doing stuff like reducing recoil, reducing flinches and the like. Overall, the MP looks a whole lot of fun, and much more balanced than previous entries.

Call of Duty games are known for their remarkable replay value. Go online right now and you will find thousands of players still enjoying older Call of Duty games. Plus CoD has familiarity that people have grown accustomed to throughout the years.

BATTLEFIELD 3

Electronic Arts employed game developer DICE for what looks to be a tremendous shooter in Battlefield 3. The game utilizes the FrostBite 2.0 engine, which not just lends great authenticity and realism to this game, but also makes it look breathtaking. The attention to detail in the game’s visuals is awesome, with great lighting effects and animations, and looks good enough to rival the likes of Crysis.

Battlefield is more realistic than CoD which makes it look more like an authentic military training program than a video game. Plus in Battlefield you can blow sh*t up. You can blow up a lot. Just like in Bad Company 2, the environment is destructible, which makes you believe that you’re in a real game and not trapped in a rat maze.

Conclusion

Analysts predict that these two games will combine to sell over $1.4 billion in revenue this fourth quarter. These two titles, alone, will generate 15% of total packaged videogame software sales for the busy holiday quarter, according to Michael Pachter, videogame analyst. Of course, the big question is: Which game will win the war? Pachter predicts MW3 will dominate, selling approximately16 million copies worldwide this year while Battlefield 3 will sell half that at 8 million copies globally this year.

If you want a realistic, authentic military game, Battlefield 3 is definitely the one you should buy. It also has a great multiplayer component, that may even stack up to MW3′s legendary multiplayer. Battlefield offers numerous vehicles to control like a FA-18 fighter jet to engage in aerial dogfights, which gives it an angle that MW3 can’t. From early reviews that I have read, Battlefield’s campaign AI can be predictable. So it seems that both games have their strengths and a few weaknesses. If you want a military game with extreme realism, plus strap into a fighter jet or tank than you should get Battlefield 3. If you want a world tour with a fascinating story line and want to stay with the comforatable familiarity of CoD than go out and get Modern Warfare 3. But it does appear it’s probably best to get both games if you’re into near-future military shooters.

Battlefield 3 is available October 25 and MW3 is available on November 8.
