Residents of the Cedar Crest Retirement Community are big New York Giants fans. So much so that some of the elderly made a Giants rally song. However it’s not done in a polka or Sinatra-like style, they went the hip hop route. The rapping retirees, ages 74 to 91 lip-synced over the hip hop song by rappers 3rd Infinity. The video is masterfully produced by the community’s TV coordinator, Larry Curran, minus the tires not spinning as it races off to Indianapolis.
But these rapping grannies and grandpas are also joksters. “I’m not a rapper and I do not see this as a second career,” resident Rob Evans joked. Tony DiFilippo told CBS, “I can’t carry a note in a bucket, so that was different.”
“We have people here who saw the Great Depression and Prohibition and just to be able to be a part of this for a life-long Giants fan, to be able to be a part of this, it’s something special,” Curran said. I think these old fogies need to relax a bit, maybe they forgot, but the Giants have won the Super Bowl three times since 1987. If they were Chicago Cubs fans, I could understand bringing up the Great Depression and Super Bowl championships.
“I personally am a classical music person, but now I can change it to 91 and 3 quarters to a rap star,” open-minded resident Ed Thom said.
Resident Margaret Bychek claims the video is going to go viral, “It’s going to go way out, into space!”
