After Brock Lesnar was pummeled by Alistair Overeem tonight at UFC 141, he retired from mixed martial arts. Overeem sent the massive fighter to the ground with a vicious kick to the body at 2:26 of the first round in their heavyweight bout on Friday night.
Lesnar, the UFC’s biggest pay-per-view star and the former heavyweight champion, was participating in his first fight after being absent for 14-month from an injury. Overeem, 6’5″ Dutch kickboxing star and former champion of Strikeforce and Dream, was made his UFC in fine fashion.
Lesnar (5-3) is a former NCAA champion wrestler, pro-wrestling star, and former NFL player who’s rise atop of the UFC was remarkably quick. However a lower intestinal disease that nearly killed him, limited him to just three fights in the past two and half years.
Here’s the blow that sent Lesnar into retirement and his subsequent verbal retirement.
